Xenophobia in South Africa: Vigilante groups target foreign-owned businesses The anti-immigrant attitude is common in South Africa. But in recent months it has taken an organised shape in the form of a rapidly growing populist movement. Young people united as the movement called "Operation Dudula" are demanding that illegal immigrants be sent home. The ruling party, the ANC, will have to respond. Authorities are firm in their stance of: "No jobs for undocumented migrants", but the situation can quickly get out of hand. Nobody wants to relive the tensions of 2008, 2015 and 2019.
