UNICEF in Syria & Turkey: 'Logistical nightmare' for rescue efforts and lifesaving humanitarian aid Rescuers in Turkey and Syria are battling the frigid cold in a race against time to find survivors trapped under buildings flattened by an earthquake that killed more than 6,200 people. And there are fears that the toll will rise inexorably, with WHO officials estimating up to 20,000 may have died. UNICEF, the United Nations children's agency, fears that the earthquake and aftershocks that destroyed scores of buildings in Turkey and Syria may have already killed thousands of children. For more on UNICEF's humanitarian efforts and the plight of the children and their families, FRANCE 24 is joined by Ann Avril, Director General of UNICEF France.
