Turkey, Syria earthquake: Nearly 25,000 emergency personnel on the ground Rescuers are working against the clock to find survivors in the rubble of thousands of buildings, after the 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes, and multiple aftershocks that struck eastern Turkey and Syria on Monday. More bodies have been found, taking the number of dead to more than 5,000. With teams arriving from around the world, Turkey's disaster management agency says nearly 25,000 emergency personnel are now on the ground, working in freezing conditions.
