Senegal's Sonko supporters claim legal charges are 'politically motivated' Senegal's public prosecutor on Saturday announced seven new charges against opposition figure Ousmane Sonko, and on Monday formally charged him with fomenting insurrection. "Mr Sonko's supporters had called for protests against his arrest on Friday, but it seems so far relatively quiet," says FRANCE 24's Sira Thierij, reporting from Dakar, Senegal. Even so, riot police were stationed around the capital on Monday. "His supporters believe the charges are politically motivated," Thierij added.
