Returning to Sinjar: In Iraq, displaced Yazidis struggle to go home On May 16, Iraq's Sinjar province saw deadly violence. The positions of a Yazidi armed group affiliated with the PKK, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, were targeted by drone strikes attributed to Turkey. Security tensions are complicating the return to the province of Yazidis in exile, after a genocide perpetrated against them by the Islamic State group in 2014. In Sinjar and in refugee camps in northern Iraq, the Yazidi population warns of the absence of a clear governing authority to ensure their safety and bring public services back to the province.
