People 'relieved' at end of Bongo rule as Gabon coup leader becomes 'transitional' president The general who led Gabon's coup last week is to be sworn in as transitional president on Monday, after ousting the country's 55-year Bongo dynasty. International reaction to the coup has been mixed with countries such as France both condemning the takeover and recognising issues with Gabon's democratic process. Meanwhile, "people in the streets are saying that they are relieved, pleased that the Bongo regime has come to an end," said FRANCE 24's Catherine Norris-Trent from Libreville.
