Moscow's holiday lights can't make Russians forget the war In Moscow, the New Year is the country's main holiday. Russians are used to celebrating with great pomp and circumstance. But this year, giant letters "Z", symbolising support for Russian troops in Ukraine, and portraits of deployed soldiers are part of the Christmas decorations. The mood is sombre with few in the festive spirit after ten months of intense mobilisation for the fighting in Ukraine.
