Hacking dreams while asleep could aid divergent creativity
New research suggests that dreams can help to shape creative ideas. While people sleep, their brains continue to work and strengthen synaptic pathways, even if the dream is not remembered. Scientists have found ways to direct dreams and increase creativity, by using a phase called N1, when dreams are most likely to follow from the thoughts someone has as they drift off. A device called Dormio fits over a person?s hand and monitors skin conductivity, muscle tension, temperature and pulse, and indicates when the N1 phase has started. The device then makes suggestions to prompt dreams on a specific subject.
