Eiffel family will resist Olympic rings staying on Paris tower The family of Gustav Eiffel, the engineer behind the iconic French tower has voiced its opposition to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo's plan to keep the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower. The descendants argued that the rings "substantially modify the very pure forms of the monument", adding that they have spoken to lawyers about blocking the change.
