Behind frontline, Zaporizhzhia steel mill plays its part in Ukraine's war effort Zaporizhzhia Steel in southeastern Ukraine is one of the giants of Ukrainian industry – and remains so even as the fighting and severed supply chains have slashed production, with the frontline just a short drive away. The company is a vital part of the Ukrainian economy, especially as it is working to meet the country’s war needs, FRANCE 24 reports. “The mood here was always patriotic and still is now,” said shift foreman Oleksii Venger. “Ten percent of the men on my team have joined the army and those who have stayed need to work even harder to cover their loss. Our morale is high and we’re all looking forward to victory.”
